On Friday, September 19, 2025, Norfolk State University will gather its family of alumni, friends, and supporters for the President’s Gala in honor of our 90th Anniversary at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott Hotel. This black-tie evening begins with a 7 p.m. reception and an 8 p.m. dinner and program, hosted by celebrated actor and producer Jawn Murry. Together, we will honor 17 remarkable individuals whose lifetime generosity has earned them a place in the Lyman Beecher Brooks Society—a testament to their unwavering commitment to Norfolk State’s mission. It will be a night of elegance and reflection, where we celebrate nine decades of Spartan pride, honor the shoulders we stand on, and look boldly toward the next chapter of our legacy.

Since June 24, 2019, Dr. Javaune Adams-Gaston has led Norfolk State University with vision, heart, and an unwavering belief in the power of the Spartan spirit. As the university’s seventh president, she is devoted to honoring Norfolk State University’s proud HBCU heritage while boldly advancing its future. Her leadership has strengthened partnerships, deepened alumni connections, and amplified the university’s impact across the community and beyond.
